Munich, 24 August 2017. Beta Cinema partners again with Golden Bear-winning Romanian producer Ada Solomon (‘Child’s Pose’, ‘Aferim’, ‘Toni Erdmann’) and is heading to the San Sebastián International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival with SOLDIERS. A STORY FROM FERENTARI by Ivana Mladenovic. The contemporary love story is the first dramatic feature film by the Serbian writer/director, who has made a name for herself with award-winning documentaries and recently starred as lead actress in Radu Jude’s multiple awarded ‘Scarred Hearts’. SOLDIERS. A STORY FROM FERENTARI will be presented as a World Premiere at the 42nd Toronto Film Festival on September 10th and travels on to compete for the Golden Shell in San Sebastián’s main competition.

SOLDIERS is a modern Romeo & Juliet set in the notorious outskirts of Bucharest, a free adaptation of the Adrian Schiop’s novel of the same name, who, as one of the lead actors, partnered with director Ivana Mladenovic on the script. Adi (Adrian Schiop) meets Alberto (Vasile Pavel Digudai), resulting in a collision of the world of intellectual bourgeoisie living in the center and the poor world of the ghetto Ferentari, home of Romania’s impoverished Roma communities. The unlikely couple begins an unexpected romance in which Adi feeds Alberto with improbable plans of escaping poverty and Alberto reciprocates with well-concocted phrases of love.

SOLDIERS. A STORY FROM FERENTARI is a Hi Film Productions in co-production with Film House Bas Celik and Frakas Productions World sales are handled by Beta Cinema.
