Beta Cinema announces first sales for moving true story YOU WILL NOT HAVE MY HATE in the run up to AFM
Beta Cinema announces Kilian Riedhof’s acclaimed drama You Will Not Have My Hate sold to several territories following its world premiere at the Piazza Grande in Locarno. It was picked up by New Select for Japan, AV-Jet for Taiwan, The Reset Collective for Australia and New Zealand. Sphere Films will release it in Canada, Yoda Films in Spain, Praesens Film in Switzerland and Mozinet in Hungary. Haut et Court will release to French cinemas on November 2 and Tobis Film in Germany and Austria on November 10. Following the devastating terrorist attacks on the Bataclan music club in Paris, the film is an intimate and emotional tale of grief and familiar love, based on the international bestselling book by journalist Antoine Leiris.
Main actor, Pierre Deladonchamps (Stranger by the Lake, Sorry Angel, Reprise en Main, Hawaii) plays Antoine Leiris, whose life completely changes in the night of November 13, 2015. Hélène, his wife and mother of his young son, dies during the terrorist attacks at the Bataclan club in Paris. In a moving Facebook post, he counters the assassins' hatred with the love for his son – a message, that moves people worldwide. Still in shock, between the media frenzy and infinite grief, Antoine has to confront his new reality. Zoé Iorio, Camélia Jordana (Le Brio), Thomas Mustin (Raw) round out the cast in this French-language production.
BAFTA nominated director Kilian Riedhof (54 Hours, Stella. A Life, Homevideo) tells the story from the very personal perspective of a father, turning the film into a defiant beacon of freedom and love.
“You Will Not Have My Hate is a sensitive, moving drama that has high potential to cross over to broader audiences. It is based on a true story turned into a world-bestselling novel, the performances by the cast are powerfully restraint and while diving deep into our protagonist’s personal but universal drama, the film has an uplifting ending, encouraging us to never give in to hatred and fear,” says Dirk Schürhoff, CEO of Beta Cinema. “We are very proud to announce our first sales for the title and to continue negotiations at AFM.”
You Will Not Have My Hate was produced by Janine Jackowski, Jonas Dornbach and Maren Ade of Komplizen Film (Corsage, Toni Erdmann, Spencer). It is co-produced by Haut et Court, Frakas Productions, NDR, Tobis, MMC Movies Cologne, Erfttal Film, RTBF (Télévision Belge), Proximus and Shelter Prod in participation with Ciné+, arte, Wallimage (La Wallonie), Haut et Court Distribution, Cofinova 17 and Indéfilms 9.
